I feel the touch of the clay spinning, the feel of the silky wet clay sliding, the grip on the clay to control its movement. From a ball of clay, a simple ball of clay, clay that would soon be shaped into a form.
In the beginning there is a plan a plan that will create the finished project, so I begin with the process of wedging the clay so that it is compact and free of foreign objects or air pockets.
Then it is weighed for the size of the object to be made. From there itis a matter of my life form creating another. What happens in the end when it is removed from the kiln is the direct result of my spirit in combination with spirit in the raw clay.
What a relief it was to find out that stoneware can go into the oven, dishwasher, and microwave with safety. The first thing I wanted to do in the beginning was to test that theory.
It works!
I tested the first cup, bowl, casserole, teapot, etc. I would and still do live with the new piece for a short period, how else to know if it can endure the passing of time before it is released into the world.
