I was mushroom hunting on Bear Island, NH and came across these mushrooms. I was so excited to see the colors and form that it inspired me to create this little dish and cover.
WHY GARDEN POTTERY IS DIFFERENT IN DESIGN
I created planters of terra cotta because plants thrive in this low-fired clay. I made turquoise bells, a beautiful color with the greenery. Then tree dragons to hang from the pots, trees, just for fun.
My newest idea is the hanging balls. There are seasons when flowers are not in bloom. Making clay flowers does not excite me, but making small sculptures that give the garden life, that does.
When I create these garden pieces I want them to be in harmony with the plants that live within and around them. This can only be done if at first I test them with my own plants.
You might ask where my ideas come from and that is a good question. I cannot answer other than to say that the universe delivers it to my hands and miracles happen. Don’t forget that along the way there are lots of mistakes and clay disasters. Warren Hingle once told me that if you get more than 1/3 of the pots out of the kiln that were perfect you were working at 100%.
